Why a doula?

Two women embracing, one resting her head on the other's shoulder, in front of a sheer curtain with natural light

Your birth story will stay with you for the rest of your life. Yet studies show that 1 in 3 women describe their birth as traumatic — an experience that can shape both postpartum wellbeing and long-term health.

The most compelling reason to work with a doula:
A doula is the only person whose entire role is to support you — your voice, your choices, and your experience.

How a doula is different:

  • Medical professionals focus on clinical outcomes and safety — essential, but their attention is divided across many patients.

  • Partners, friends, and family bring love and encouragement — but it can be hard for them to stay objective.

  • Doulas provide unbiased, continuous emotional and informational support — ensuring your voice is heard, your plan is respected, and you feel cared for at every stage.

Learn more about what doulas do and why they are important in this research-backed article from Evidence Based Birth.

Named after the nickname my daughter gave me — Mommerz is a reminder that motherhood is equal parts love, laughter, and transformation.

A doula helps make the whole journey better.

Common misconceptions:

  • “Doulas are medical professionals.”Nope! We don’t perform procedures or give medical advice. We provide emotional space, evidence-based resources, comfort measures, and advocacy.

  • “Doulas only matter if they’re at the birth.”Not true. Some of the most powerful support happens before labor (planning, easing anxiety, preparing your body and mind) and after birth (postpartum recovery, integration, return to work).

The reality:
A doula doesn’t replace your provider, partner, or family — we complement them. Together, we form a circle of care around you, so you feel stronger, calmer, and fully supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Kayla McGuire, Founder

I know what it’s like to walk through pregnancy and motherhood wanting to feel prepared, supported, and still like yourself. That’s why I became a doula — to give women the kind of care I believe we should all experience.

My work blends the heart of doula care with the tools of wellness and leadership I’ve built over my career. I don’t just show up for the moment of birth, I’m here to walk with you through the decisions, the emotions, and the transitions that come with it.
